So! Today in my music history class we were discussing Carl Maria Von Weber’s most famous opera Der Freischütz, The Marksman, which is essentially about this man who is going to dual to win this girl so he can marry her. But here’s the thing, he’s a crap shot. So he decides to sell his soul for 6 magic bullets that will hit and kill anything. The devil also makes a 7th which will be used to kill the man and keep him from marrying his love. The man and his friend go to the woods to forge the magic bullets and call forth Samuel, a representation of the devil. With him they forge the bullets and he sells his soul. Weber took the subject matter of this opera from headlines in Germany at the time where reading about people selling their souls to the devil at crossroads at midnight was not completely uncommon.

At this point in the lecture I was screaming internally at the amount of stuff from this opera that was in Supernatural. I wanted to scream “CROSSROADS DEMON” “GET THE MUTHA FUCKIN SALT” “WHERE’S A DEMONS TRAP WHEN YOU NEED ONE”. But I contained myself. BUT I HAD TO TELL EVERYONE. It was so cool :D
